Marie Geraldine “Gerry” Chouinard
74 a resident of Prairie Grove, died Saturday, July 3, 2010, at her home. She was born on January 23, 1936 in Waterbury, CT the daughter of Albert and Leonie Grenier Chouinard.
She was a graduate of Waterbury Catholic High. After years working in business, she made the decision to return to school to become a teacher. She graduated from University of Danbury State College and entered the profession of teaching which became a lifelong passion. To say that she enjoyed her job would be an understatement. She reluctantly retired from teaching in 1998, but found a new passion in retirement. Gerry loved the theater, travel, playing bridge and pinochle, but above all, she loved her family! She moved to Prairie Grove, AR in 2000 to be near them and never regretted it. She made friends quickly, as anyone who knows her can attest to. She had a quick wit and a winning laugh. She joined bridge clubs, social clubs and the area senior centers. She established a Mah Jongg club when she couldn’t find one in the area. She was a volunteer for many years at both the Walton Arts Center and Life Ministries of Prairie Grove. She was a member of and loved the people of the First Baptist Church of West Fork. Gerry loved to work in her yard and took great pride in her beautiful landscape. She also loved her cat, ‘Menieux’ (mee-new), who she nursed back to health after finding her beaten and dumped in the ditch outside her home.
Gerry never married but is survived by her sister, Joyce Carver of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, her brother Ron Chouinard of Lincoln, Arkansas, and many nieces and nephews who all thought the world of her and live in hope of being with her again one day!
A Celebration of Gerry’s Life will be held Sunday, July 18, 2010 - 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of West Fork, Arkansas. Memorials may be made to Bible League International, P.O. Box 28000, Chicago, IL 60628. Gerry had a huge, giving heart and would feel there is no greater gift to give than the Word of God to those that might otherwise never hear!
Arrangements are under the direction of the Luginbuel Funeral Home of Prairie Grove. Everyone who knew Gerry has a story to tell. The family would appreciate hearing yours! Please take a moment to record your memory in the online guest book at www.luginbuel.com |
