Obituary

Bruce Marx Powell of Fayetteville went to his eternal rest on November 19, 2015.

He was born May 9, 1936 in Oklahoma City Oklahoma to James Dewey Powell and Ottilla Marx. He was raised in Ft. Worth, Texas returning to Oklahoma City at the end of high school.

Bruce attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated with BS & MS Degrees in Engineering in 1959 and 1969 respectively.
In 1957, he married Barbara Jo (Bobbi) Lewis. Bruce, Bobbi and family traveled the world as he served in the United States Air Force with tours in the United States, Germany and Canada. He was a member of the 555 Red Horse Squadron in Vietnam and was awarded a Bronze Star for meritorious service.
He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1975 with the rank of Major. He went to work for the Veterans Administration as a Hospital Engineer and served as the Chief Engineer of the VA Hospital in Fayetteville from 1978 until his retirement in 2008.
Bruce and Bobbi were married until her death in 2009. In 2010 Bruce married Dorothy Birch (Dot) Powell. He and Dot shared their passion for travel with 4 cruises and other trips around the United States.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Donald Powell and Dwight Powell.

He is survived by Dot of Fayetteville, daughter Teresa (Paul) Fisher of Haltom City, Texas; son Don (Elizabeth) Powell of Germantown, Tennessee; son Mike (Patty) Powell of Mansfield, Texas; son Jim (Susan) Powell of Olympia, Washington; step daughter Beverly (Greg) Copeland of Lincoln, Arkansas; step daughter Jacque (Bob) Long of Pea Ridge, Arkansas; sister-in-law Bobbie Jean Powell of Reading, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; many close friends including John and Betty Keller of Fayetteville; and his loved pets Sadie and Mocha.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 23, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Luginbuel Funeral Home in Prairie Grove. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 24th at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Prairie Grove.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the First United Methodist Church of Prairie Grove, Arkansas.
