Caroline Margaret Moore

Caroline (Brownie) Margaret Moore (nee Barsh), passed from this life on December, 31, 2018. Caroline (Brownie) was born to William Henry Barsh and Caroline Cirotzki Barsh on December 13, 1931 in Meriden, Connecticut. In 1935 her father, a German Baptist Pastor, moved his family back to his native Central Texas where he had grown up on a farm (oldest of 6 brothers). She was a twin to her Brother, William Henry Barsh II. Over time Caroline and her Twin became known as Brownie and Bucky. They had an older brother, Albert and a younger sister, Ruth. She grew up in Lockhart and Houston, Texas, spent college and early married years in Austin, Texas and lived many years in Midland, Texas. She was a long-time resident of Huntsville, Texas, where she lived the largest part of her life. Brownie was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers Albert Barsh and William (Bucky) H. Barsh II, as well as her two sons, Charles Albert Moore and Andrew Paul Moore.

She is survived by her Husband of 68 ½ years, R. Harrell Moore (of the home), her Sister, Ruth Barsh Erwin (Belaire, TX); her son, Rager Harrell Moore II and his wife Gigi (Prairie Grove, AR); Daughters-in-law, Brucie Moore (Corpus Christi, Texas) and Cathy Moore (Houston, Texas). She is also survived by her Grandchildren: Caroline Russell (Kevin), Charlotte Moore (Troy), Courtney Rominger (Doug), Emily Limas (Ruben), Ashley Batistick (Mike), Mallory Fernandez (Diego), Michael Gold, Josh Gold, Kelsey Gold, and Kyle Gold; and by her Great Grandchildren, Margaret Moore, Elisabeth Limas, Morgan Moore, Madison Moore, Isaiah Russell, Maggie Russell, Jeremiah Russell, Joseph Russell, and Mia Batistick.

She was an incredibly strong, and strong-willed, woman. She graduated from High School with intentions to be a world mover. She succeeded, although, perhaps, not in a way that was noticed around the world. She was in the top of her class, no matter what she did. She earned her Bachelor Degree and all but the very end of her Masters (both in English and Drama), at a time when a woman with young children and a spouse did not do those things. She was a mover and a shaker wherever she was. In their early years in Midland, TX, she helped form a Symphony Guild to perpetuate the Arts. She was always involved in some type of Community Theatre throughout her life as an actor, director and supporter, especially Children’s Theatre. She loved to present musical programs as she sang and narrated songs from Funny Girl and Hello Dolly, as well as songs of Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, George Gershwin, World War I and World War Two. She knew Football better than most men! She even wrote an article in a Texas Coaches Magazine (in the 60's) that helped other mothers understand the ins and outs of helping their sons follow a path in sports, specifically football, to help them become better young men. She directed many young people in Community Theatre programs, enriching the entire community by turning kids on to acting, theater, music and the arts. She was a great lover of Texas History, especially the life and times of Sam Houston.

She was a Master Seamstress. She could take any remnant from the table at the bargain counter of the fabric store and turn it into a shirt, a tie, even underwear. She made Suits, embroidered any kind of monogram. She even costumed plays and made baseball uniforms and designed and made wedding dresses. She could sew anything.

The Second Act of her life was spent as an Oil & Gas Landman, working with her Husband in that business as she worked for all of the major Oil Companies. She was sought after by Exxon and Shell for her fine work in the field of Oil & Gas Leasing. She ended her career in that field at the age of 82 after working for her son, Andy, and his small oil company in Corpus Christi, Texas for about the last 10 or 12 years. After the passing of her two oldest sons, she and Harrell moved to be with their youngest son in Prairie Grove, Arkansas.

Throughout her life she was always very involved in the life of the churches of which she was a member. She served in almost every capacity that she possibly could, including a Bible Teacher, Choir member, Financial Committee Chair, Sunday School Teacher, Special Event Coordinator, Chief Cook and Bottlewasher!

Brownie was highly motivated and a task master, to be sure! Her expectations for everyone were always very high, especially her family and extended family. She expected... you did. That was her way. Sometimes that could cause ruffled feathers, but it always promoted excellence. That was just Brownie!

A memorial fund for Caroline (Brownie) Margaret Barsh Moore will be set up at First Baptist Church, Huntsville, Texas to remember her 40 years of service to that church and church family and to help further causes that she championed. The Family requests that, in lieu of Flowers, gifts be given to the Church in her honor and for her Memorial Fund.

A service to celebrate Brownie’s life will be scheduled at a later date, in Huntsville, Texas at First Baptist Church.
