My heartfelt condolences go out to Randel and to Ron, Connie's brother. We will all miss Connie's gentle nature, the delight she took in the simple things, and her unwavering faith in God. May the Lord comfort you with precious memories of Connie and fill you with His peace knowing she has earned her reward in heaven. I first met Connie in 1980, shortly after I got out of the Air Force and moved to Prairie Grove. I was thankful to have a new friend who loved the Lord! We came from quite different backgrounds but became fast friends. It reminds me of a beautiful little poem I read years ago: "What made us friends in the long ago, when first we met? Well, I think I know. The best in me and the best in you, hailed each other because they knew that ever and ever since time began, our being friends was part of God's plan." Connie and I shared an apartment for a year before I re-entered the Air Force. That was fun! We would trade off making dinner. One night she made pork chops and mashed potatoes. When we sat down to eat, I asked her if she had made any gravy. "Oh, you want some gravy, I can make it real quick." She proceeded to make white gravy while I expected gravy made from pork drippings! So, her country girl roots opened my eyes to a different way of thinking. She passed on a delicious Mexican casserole recipe to me. But one thing I just never acquired a taste for were raw onions; Connie loved them! Other special memories I have of Connie were when she, Virginia (Connie's mother), and Patty (our friend), came to visit me in Virginia in the mid-90's. We had fun taking a trip to DC. We were all hungry and the only restaurant convenient at that time offered an unusual cuisine; each lady ordered a burger and fries, and I was the only one who would try African food! Connie and Patty adventured to Europe to visit me and my family while we were stationed in the Netherlands. We saw sights in Germany and France and the Netherlands which Connie took great delight in seeing during our road trips. She was a great traveler. Finally, it was such a pleasure having Connie, Randel, and Patty visit us in Ohio. We took a drive to Amish country and had so much fun seeing the beautiful scenery, tasting the good food, and buying trinkets. Poor Connie, she had the middle spot in the back seat for the whole drive, but she was quite the trooper; never complaining. Connie was such an easygoing woman who encouraged me and valued our friendship over the years and the miles. Of course, I am saddened to see her go so soon, but I can't begrudge her the ultimate experience we both looked forward to, to be in the presence of our dear Lord and Savior, Jesus. Connie is happy, whole, and probably singing to Jesus as I write this tribute! "Lord, would you please give Connie a huge hug from me and tell her I really look forward to reuniting with my dear friend when I get to heaven. I want to thank You for blessing me with the friendship I had with Connie. She is Your child, and I know in Your wisdom, it was time for her to go home. We love You, Lord!" Amen
