Obituary

Ronald Z. Douthit

This beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend departed this life on March 16, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. His quick wit, passion for helping others, and dedication to his family will be missed greatly by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Ron was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 6, 1938 to Hugh and Virginia Douthit. Ron was the youngest of six. After the family moved to the Orlando, Florida area and Ron graduated from Boone High School, he spent three years serving our country in the United States Army. Stationed in Germany for most of his time in the military, Ron furthered his passion for sports and the German night life. After meeting the love of his life, Judy Kay LeBre, they were married on July 3, 1963 in Taft, Florida. They were blessed with three sons, David Douthit, Dane Douthit and Braden Fourie.

Ron graduated in 1969 with an Associate Degree from Brevard Junior College. He furthered his education with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from The University of Central Florida in 1971 and began his teaching career at Cocoa High School in Cocoa, Florida. At Cocoa High School, Ron also coached basketball. Ron then completed his Master’s Degree in Education from The University of Central Florida in 1973.

Ron spent 20 years working with the Social Security Administration in various roles, finishing his dedicated career as the District Manager in Lubbock, Texas. He then became a Disabilities Counselor for Allsup, Inc. and moved to Orlando, Florida where he was able to travel extensively and help others receive the assistance they needed. He was later able continue his career with Allsup, Inc. while being based out of his home in Lavon, Texas.

Ron had passion for almost any sport, but was particularly fond of golf and baseball. In the later years of his life, he and Judy traveled regularly with friends and family. In many instances, the travel was to help further Ron’s hobby of genealogical research on the Douthit family and his love of history.

Ron is survived by wife, Judy LeBre Douthit, and three sons David Douthit and wife Kelly, Dane Douthit and wife Michele, and Braden Fourie. He is also survived by nine grandchildren Rachel Douthit, Benjamin Douthit, Joshua Douthit, Matthew Douthit, Hannah Douthit, Aaron Douthit, Tanner Douthit, Nicholas Douthit, and Jared Douthit. Ron was preceded in death by sister, Jen White. He is survived by brothers, Richard Douthit and wife Sonja, Troy Douthit and wife Diane, and sisters, June Jones and Veta Chapman and husband Bernard. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who truly enjoyed spending time with their fun loving Uncle.
