Sidney Stephen Bethard

72, resident of Bentonville, Arkansas, passed away July 8, 2016 in Bentonville. He was born December 17, 1943 in Milford, Delaware, the son of Ross and Lillian Mattison Bethard.

He graduated from Newark High School in Delaware and then joined the Army. After his service in the Military, he worked for Walton Corporation as a well driller. He then became an Artillery Test Director for the US Government at Aberdeen Proving Ground where he retired after 22+ years of service. He enjoyed serving the Lord and volunteering for several ministries to help the less fortunate. Sid was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, his pets, and was proud of his beautiful truck. Sid had a great sense of humor, was kind natured, and loved by all.


He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of thirty-two years Carol Bethard, one son Sidney Bethard, Jr. and one sister Carol Maurer.

Survivors include one son, Sonny S. Bethard and his wife, Nannette of Colora, Maryland; four daughters, Denita J Ewing and her husband Wayne of Anderson, Missouri, Lanette A. Bethard of Townsend, Delaware, Renee L. Bethard and her fiancé, Todd Tush of Smyrna, Delaware and Dawn L. Wilson and her husband Joe of Gravette, Arkansas; two brothers, Ross Bethard of Ohio, and Charles Bethard of Delaware; one sister, Patricia May of Florida;
seven grandchildren, Cydnie Hetherton and her husband, James, Aaron Bethard, Michael Bethard, Nicholas Bethard, Celeste Bethard, Olivia Wilson, Clemens Wilson; four great grandchildren, Dylan Hetherton, Daniel Hetherton, Landon Hetherton, and Cali Jo Bethard, along with many loving nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. before the service.

Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, July 12, 2016 - 2:00 P.M. at the Luginbuel Chapel. Burial will be in the Prairie Grove Cemetery. No graveside service will be held at the Cemetery.

We were all blessed to know Sid. I grew up with him always being there to protect me. We all loved his zest for life and his laughter, and love for family and friends and serving our Lord. He sure could tell good stories and make us all laugh. We will all miss him but we know we will see him again. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. love you all xo

Uncle Sid always knew how to tell a story and make you laugh. He gave me so many wonderful memories and I will cherish them for the rest of my life. I am deeply saddened at his passing but know I will see him again. I will miss him and his laugh so much. RIP Uncle Sid. I will love you always. My life is better because you were in it! Praying for all whose lives were blessed enough to know you.
