Obituary

Carl Glen Stephens, 86, of Springdale, died October 10, 2019. He was born August 19, 1933, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, to the late Opal Guess Stephens and the late Jesse Stephens.

Carl retired from Southwestern Electric Power Company (“SWEPCO”) after 35 years and served for 10 years with the Fayetteville Fire Department. He was a Korean War veteran and a graduate of University High School in Fayetteville. Carl was a faithful Christian and long-time deacon at Immanuel Baptist Church and later at Sang Avenue Baptist Church, both in Fayetteville. He was a lifelong fan of all Arkansas Razorbacks sports and St. Louis Cardinals baseball. He shared many stories about growing up with his brother and sister in Fayetteville and Northwest Arkansas, and about spending time at his grandparents’ homes in the Durham and Prairie Grove areas. Carl loved to read and fish and seldom met a stranger. He loved his family and friends and showed that by his kindness and servant’s heart.

Carl was preceded in death by his sister, Corinne Lewis; brother-in-law, Tryon Lewis; brother, Frank Stephens; and sister-in-law Billie Sue Stephens, all of Fayetteville.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Janelle Phillips Stephens of Springdale; daughter, Monte Stephens Frankenfield of Nashville, TN; son, Neal Stephens and daughter-in-law, Kim Stephens of White Hall; and daughter, Jan Stephens Hill of Springdale. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Rebecca Stephens Lambert (Cody) of Bryant; Rachel Stephens Acosta (Michael) of East End; Noah Stephens (Kimmy) of Conway; Claire Frankenfield of Dallas, TX; William Frankenfield of Nashville, TN; Emma Hill of Conway; and Grayson Hill of Springdale; and by many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial celebration will be held Saturday, October 19, 2019, 11 a.m., at Sang Avenue Baptist Church, 1425 N. Sang Avenue, Fayetteville. Visitation with the family from 10 – 11 will precede the service. Private burial will be in the Prairie Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to Sang Avenue Baptist Church, your church or favorite charity.
