Obituary

Dalton (D.J.) “Superman” Lacey

20 a resident of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, went to be with his Lord on Monday, October 11, 2010 at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born on July 8, 1990 in Springdale, Arkansas, the son of Mitchell (Sonny) and Julie A. Carr Lacey.

D.J. graduated from Prairie Grove High School in 2009 and was currently a student at Arkansas Career Training Institute in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He adored his family and everyone at ACTI where he will be very missed and always loved accepted and remembered. He was a true fighting Tiger, he loved supporting the Prairie Grove football teams, cheering on his brothers. He loved NASCAR, monster trucks and fixing cars.

He was the oldest living Hypoplastic Left Heart patient at Children’s Hospital, who took care of him for 20 years. He made such an impression on the nurses and doctors from 20 years ago that they still kept in touch with him. He was not only a pioneer in surviving heart defects, but a true gift from God. Hearts all over the world from Japan to Australia broken from his loss, but just as many from just as far away were healed because of what he allowed doctors to learn from his condition. People always told him he had on old soul in his eyes. He knew this day would come, he was only waiting for his body to catch up to his soul. D.J. walked with God so many times and this time could not leave God’s side to come back to us. This journey is complete he is safe and healthy and happy with our Father in Heaven.

Survivors include his father and mother of the home; one sister, Tira Lacey Swafford of Springdale, Arkansas; two brothers, Braiden Lacey and Jacob Lacey both of Prairie Grove, Arkansas; one niece, Chloe Mae Swafford of Springdale, Arkansas; grandparents, Mitchell and Joyce Lacey of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, Virginia Roberts of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Catherine and Joe Carlock of Rogers, Arkansas, Delmas and Christine Carr of Indiana, two great grandmothers, Bondola Lacey of Prairie Grove, Arkansas and Cassie Car of Virginia, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Luginbuel Funeral Home in Prairie Grove, Arkansas.

DJ was a wonderful person, He will missed so much and we really adored him. I am glad we got to know him. My 11yr old had a crush on him when he was dating my older daughter. He was so sweet and very kind person and always had a place in our heart here. The Stout family

In this difficult time I am comforted to know that DJ is in God's hands, the same God who guided through all the challenges he faced to this point. He was a unique young man who survived things that most kids born when he was did not. Please remember his joy for living and the fact that he knew his family loved him every day. What a wonderful family you were to him throughout his whole life, even in the end. God Bless you all, Paul Seib

So sorry to hear of DJ's passing. He was such a sweet kid. DJ was in my US History class when he was a junior. I have several memories of him drawing cars in his notebook when he should have been taking history notes. It might have irked me at the time - although I could never be angry with him! - but now they are precious memories of him for me. I will never forget DJ! I pray the family can find some comfort in this time.

DJ..... wow..... what an awesome young man he was..... there will never be a day go by that one of us wont think about DJ or wonder what he would think of this or that.... he was always such a joy to be around... if you didnt have a smile when DJ got there, you would have before he was gone.... there are truly no words to describe this young man that would make people understand the kind, loving and understanding person he was... for those of us who had the honor to know DJ we will greive what we have lost but we know not to grieve for him because he is in a better place and still smiling as always... for those of you who didnt know him I am so sorry you will not have the pleasure of meeting this unique and loving person.... rest in peace DJ and know that one day we will meet each other with a warm embrace... see ya in Heaven when i get there.....

To the Lacey Family, On behalf of the Administration, Faculty, Staff, and Student Body of Arkansas Career Training Institute and the Hot Springs Rehabilitation Center, I wish to express our sincere condolences in the passing of Dalton "Superman". He was a vibrant part of the student body and very well liked. I have had numerous students in my office over the last two days who have all expressed deep sadness and a sincere feeling of loss. They all however have reflected on the joy and happiness that D.J. brought to thier lives. he has touched many hearts and souls in his life and I know that his amazing attitude and personality will continue to live within others for many years to come. ACTI has been blessed with his presence and please know that you will continue to be in our prayers in the days, weeks, and months to come. It is our desire that in this hour, you will reflect on the amazing journey he has made and that the peace, that scripture says is a "peace that surpasseth all understanding" will rest within your hearts. Know in this hour he IS with his creator, maker, and father in Heaven above. My his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace, through the mercies of our Lord Jesus Christ. In loving remembrance, Fr. Rick, Chaplain, ACTI/HSRC

Twenty years is really such a short time, but know that you were blessed to have had D.J.. He will always be with you in your hearts and memories. I remember him as a sweet, happy little boy. When he was in kindergarten and we walked down town to the fire station, I wanted him to let me pull him in a wagon, but he didn't want any part of it. So we set off on our walk and I ended up carrying him part of the way. He would walk a ways and then I would carry him a little ways and then he would want to walk some more. He was a great kid and will be missed by many. Know that your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
