Don was at Prairie Grove while I was a grad student at the UofA. He didn't need to take time to talk to me, show me the battlefield or even take an interest in me--and I would not have been offended if he had not. But he did and I learned an awful lot from him, and I'm always grateful for his help and support. Don you will be sincerely missed. My condolences to the family. Folks like Don can never be replaced.
Terry Beckenbaugh - Friend

I had the wonderful opportunity to be at workshops with Don, do programs @ Historic Arkansas, with singing included; socialize, discuss and enjoy his company. He left a valuable legacy for Ar. State Parks and was always a kind and funny friend. My thoughts are with you, Mary Gillihan Ozark Folk Center State Park

I have known Don for over 20 years and have to come to respect and admire him a great deal. He was a rare individual with a great passion for his work. The world will seem a little less bright and beautiful with his passing. You are in my prayers, my friend, God Bless you.

Don and I started work with Arkansas State Parks at about the same time; he at Old Washington and me at Crater of Diamonds. We stayed in contact throughout our careers. He helped out several times with elderhostel programs at Devil's Den where I worked the last 24 years of my career. I will miss Don. Please accept my condolences.
Harry Harnish - Longtime Friend

Bob Sigafoos - Good Friend

Don made a great contribution to Historic Washington State Park. As a fellow historian of Washington I have used alot of his research that has been very beneficial to the park and myself personally. He will be missed, but he has left a lasting legacy and impression upon this little town of Washington in the southwest corner of the state. God Bless!
Josh Williams - Historic Washington State Park

Jackie Starr - Worked With At Park

Randy & Linda Bradley - Friends

While I only met Don once or twice, I did know him through his historical research and articles. I was very grateful for the detailed research he compiled for Historic Washington and made available to later researchers like myself. His contributions to Arkansas history will be missed, but not as much as Don himself.
