Obituary

George Ivan Reed

78, a resident of Gentry, Arkansas, went to be with his Lord, August 14, 2006 at Springdale, Arkansas. He was born July 28, 1928 at Morrow, Arkansas, the son of Lloyd and Sarah Dorcas Cox Reed.

G.I., as many people referred to him, was a God-fearing and loving man. Through his acts of giving, he was instrumental in helping to purchase and build now existing churches in N.W. Arkansas and Texas. He received the Holy Ghost and was baptized in Jesus name in Borger,
Texas, in the early 50's. A man whose steps were ordered by God, he remained a faithful Christian. His prayer life is an example for generations following. His generous heart was shown through his multiple giving to Tupelo Children's Mansion, Foreign Missions, Home Missions, Mother's Memorial and church building funds. His passing from this life has been a welcome home to the loving arms of Jesus where he walks on streets of gold with his son, Denise Reed and other friends and relatives. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Ivan Reed; his mother and father; three brothers, Harold Reed, Kenneth Reed, and Robert Reed.

Survivors include one son, George David Reed of Bentonville, Arkansas; one daughter, Connie Rhea Reed of Alexandria, Louisiana; one brother, Allen Reed of Fritch, Texas; two sisters, Martha Parr of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Grace Brown of Lincoln, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Aaron Reed, Marc Reed, Sahra Sherrill, Brandi Reed, Niki Reed, and Morgan Reed; five great grandchildren, Galvin Reed, Hadasah Sherrill, Carson Reed, Tobey Reed, and Taylor Reed; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the Luginbuel Chapel in Prairie Grove.

David, Connie, and to all of Ivan`s grandchildren and relatives. It was a very sad moment for me when I heard of Ivan. I know in his life he, like many of us, did his best to live the good life and to be a good person. There were mistakes along the way, mistakes that we all make, but again I will say he did his best, we can ask no more of anyone. I am sorry and wish every one well. Brother-In-Law and Uncle Wade.

Although many miles separated my dad (Kenneth) and Ivan the miles did not keep them from being close they talked often. Ivan always kept dad updated on the bothers and sisters still in Arkansas. They shared not only real family…they also shared their church family and they held each other up in prayer. One of my fondest memories was Ivan coming to Gran Knox’s house to stay with Dad while we celebrated Gran’s birthday. Dad did not feel well enough to set up and Ivan was setting by his bed…..Dad the typical older brother was questioning him about various things in his life. I never got the chance to tell Ivan thanks so much for checking in on Mom from time to time after Dad died. He helped keep the remaining Reed family in touch….something everyone expected. He will be missed in more than one way. David and Connie I am so sorry for your loss.

I will miss my sweet Papa. He was a great pillar in my life. I will miss him more than words can say. However, I do know that he is in a better place. For sure he heard our Savior say "Well done, thy good and faithful servant." I can imagine Papa telling jokes in heaven - he always kept me laughing. Papa, I'll see you in the rapture!

I talked to him only by phone while I was helping Connie at school. We talked as if we knew one another. He made me feel as if I was part of their family. His caring, sense of humor, and love for his family, will always be remembered.

Daddy, I miss you so much. I know your prayers and the love of JESUS is with us each day. Someday soon, we will all be together walking on streets of gold and singing praises to the GREAT I AM, JESUS our LORD and SAVIOR. As your last words to me were, see you soon, Daddy. Your loving daughter, Connie Rhea Reed
Connie R. Reed - Daughter
Daddy, I miss you so much today. Bro. Anthony preached that soon we will be stepping on streets of gold. I remember you telling me that a few minutes before you left. I realize you can't read this. I know this is more for my good than anything else. It just helps to remind me of soon and very soon we shall see the KING. I listen to a tape of yours that you taped at church. You forgot to turn the tape off after church was over. You were going down the road with an off-key whistle "I love the Lord". I do too. I just can't hardly wait until we all dance and praise JESUS forever and forever. Well, guess I'll sign off for this year. If I don't sign on next year, you know where I'll be; Walking on streets of gold and praising Jesus forever and forever!!! Your daughter, Connie ps You are still the best Daddy ever!!!!
