James Weldon Yancey

85 a resident of Farmington, went to be with his Lord on February 9, 2012 at the V.A. Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born December 11, 1926 in Arkadelphia, the son of Hallie Scott and Bertha Mageldne Fendly Yancey.

He departed this life in exchange for a more glorious and eternal life. His departure follows a 16 year encounter with Alzheimer's, during which his wife of 68 years devotedly cared for him at home. James served in the United States Army during WWII, he worked as a supply clerk for 30 years for the V.A. Hospital in Fayetteville. He was a member of the Farmington Baptist Church. He was a gentleman farmer, enjoying livestock and gardening. He left not a great inheritance, but a great legacy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Tommy and Ronald; four brothers, Bob, Orby, Carroll and R.T., and one grandson, Levi Reece.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Verna Yancey; one son, Charles Yancey and his wife, Darla of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; two daughters, Billie Jean Harger and her husband, Larry of Havanna, Arkansas, and Brenda Yancey of Farmington, Arkansas; one brother, Bill Yancey of Lincoln, five sisters, Marilyn Runyard of Arkadelphia, Virginia Walker and Elaine Bible both of Farmington, Martha Tucker of Maysville, And Linda Henderson of Bentonville. nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Funeral Service

10:00 am
the Farmington Baptist Church, Farmington, Arkansas. There will be no graveside services held at the cemetery.
