Joan D. Fort, age 90, of Farmington, Arkansas, passed away on February 26, 2026. She was born August 28, 1935 in Bloomfield, Iowa to Carl and Gatha (Dively) Yates.
Joan was a born-again believer and follower of Christ. She was a wife, mother of eight, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Joan was a homesteader, farmer, homemaker, seamstress, and baker. Her greatest achievement was raising her eight children, whom she loved with her whole heart, along with her many grandchildren. She was a simple woman who lived a simple, godly life. Joan was a member of White Rock Light of Faith PCG Church in Fayetteville for 18 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Gatha Yates; her husband, Wendell Fort Sr. daughters, Carla Plumlee and Rebecca Cook; brothers, Carl Yates, Bill Yates, and Johnny Yates; sister, Martha Bennet; and grandchildren, Laura Hendrix Foster and Danny Foster.
She is survived by her children, Wendell Fort Jr. and wife Kim of Farmington; Doris Fort of Farmington; Gatha McIntyre and husband, Jim of Fayetteville; Julia Shrum of Marble; Alma Fort of Elm Springs; Leora Biswell and husband, Sammy of Farmington; She is also survived by her siblings, Tony and Kay Yates of Goshen; Jim and Linda Yates of Huntsville; Miles Yates of Huntsville; June Fort of Springdale; Virginia Case of Clarksville; and Betty Wilson of Springdale; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
