Obituary
John (Andy) Anderson
Age 82, a resident of Summers, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2025. He was born May 14, 1942 in Peavine, Oklahoma, the son of Frederick and Alta (Coombes) Anderson.
Andy was a man larger than life itself. He was so many things, to so many people. He was a loyal friend, a caring son, a supportive brother, a loving husband, and a symbol of ‘home’ to his children and grandchildren. Andy wore many hats. During his life, he was a farrier, horse trainer, carpenter, cowboy, blacksmith, muleskinner, ranch hand, prankster, music man, storyteller, race driver, setup man, and a fabricator, as well as a patient teacher and skilled mentor. He never met a stranger, and made everyone feel like they were an old family friend. He loved sharing his knowledge and mentoring others, even if there was only ‘his way’ to do it. Andy always had a project, be it a horse, mule, or race car and used these to instill the love of those things, as well as his hard work ethic, in his children and grandchildren. He spent his life dedicated to family, and gathered many friends along the way. Though we are saddened by the loss of this man, we know that he was smiling that infectious smile with that ornery light in his eyes as he met Mary ‘at the river’ in the Kingdom of Heaven.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Anderson of the home; his mother Alta (Coombes) Anderson of Peavine, OK; his father Frederick Anderson and stepmother Hester of Cherry Tree, OK; four brothers Bill, Tommy, Ted, Wayne all of Peavine, OK; three sisters Deloris of Westville, OK, Rosalie of Stilwell, OK, Mary Jane of Peavine, OK; and one son John Wesley Anderson of Tahlequah, OK.
Survivors include one sister Suzy Doyle; one brother Fred (Red) Anderson; three children Mitchell Anderson and his wife Pam of Summers, Arkansas, Christy Lankford and her husband Chad of Roaring River, North Carolina, and Judy Humphry of Stilwell, Oklahoma; twelve grandchildren Jacob Anderson, Aaron Moss, Kaitlyn Lankford, Dalton Lankford, Ashtin Lankford, Maicey Lankford, Wesley Anderson, Bradley Anderson, Susan Vaughn, Alisa Higgins-Ritter, Dana Brashear, and Nicolette Humphry; seventeen great grandchildren.
The family will have a private celebration of life at a later date.
