Oh brother where are’t though? Where have the days gone? The camping, hiking, and fishing trips in Colorado we used to take with Mom and Dad. Remember when we pee’d in a bottle and then threw it in the stream in Centennial, Wyoming just to see where it went; the long (and I do mean long) hike over the glacier and us hiding in a little thicket patch just to stay warm, and standing in front of the camper heater intake to block the wind so Dad could light the furnace? Remember the long, hot summer days and nights in Arkansas? We’d sleep outside on a cot at night and listen to the owl on the visitors’ bench at the football field, we delivered papers, we’d have pop-bottle rocket wars, and we’d ride our bikes down to the old river bridge and fish (though we never caught anything). And who could forget the long hours picking fruits and vegetables out of our garden and other places. Remember the long, cold winter days? We went hunting with Pappaw and Dad, we had BB gun wars with Dewayne, and we’d explore the frozen creek outside Nanny and Pappaw’s house (but we weren’t supposed to be there). Remember the band directors we went through in high school? After my high school graduation we both went our separate ways, but eventually we got back together. Remember when we both returned from Desert Shield/Storm? How many pounds of Hooter’s wings and beer did we consume? And you always ordered the hottest wings they’d serve. Remember the Thanksgiving Day at Fort Bragg, NC where we both dressed in our dress uniforms and ate in an Army chow hall…..and liked the food. Remember when Patrick and Liam came along? You were a great uncle to both boys; always playing with them, showing them new things and gadgets, and just being there to listen to them. John, these are just a few of the things that have run through my memory. I will miss you my brother. I’ll always remember the good and the not so good times we had, but we did them together So many memories, so many missed opportunities.

My dearest friend. It saddens me to know you are no longer here. Never has there been a truer, more loyal friend than you. Your friendship has been a blessing in my life and the lives of others, too numerous to count. I don’t understand why you were called home so early but I accept it knowing I had the privilege to be your friend. I can honestly say I am better off having known you. We had some great times together but now it’s time to say goodbye. Until I see you again, rest well, my friend.

"Let me not mourn for the men who have died fighting, but rather let me be glad that such heroes have lived. If it be my lot to die, let me do so with courage and honor in a manner which will bring the greatest harm to the enemy, and please, oh Lord, protect and guide those I shall leave behind. Give us the victory, Lord." I wish I could have said this at your funeral, John. I'm disappointed to see you go, but I'm happy that you're in a better place now. There was never a man I tried harder to impress and make laugh, and never a man I could count on more to be up just as late as I was who could answer my technology and weaponry questions, and if you couldnt, you even researched for me. I was honored to be your pallbearer. Love truly, Patrick.
