Obituary

Maurice Udell Chilton passed peacefully into eternity on May 28, 2016, at the age of 94 1/2 at Willard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville, Arkansas. As he often said recently, he truly had a wonderful life, but he was very ready to meet his Maker.

Maurice was born November 4, 1921 in Van Buren, Missouri to Zimri and Molly Mae Chilton, the third of six children. He graduated from Central High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1940 and then from the Oklahoma School of Accountancy, Law, and Finance. In 1941, he married Florence Elva Spence and they raised 4 daughters, Ann, Nancy, Pat, and Rosalie, whom he was extremely proud of and loved dearly. Maurice enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1942 and served, as he always said, for 3 years, 6 months, and 9 days. After World War II ended, he went to work for the Postal Service for a short time, and then as an accountant for Gulf Oil Corporation. He spent 31 years with Gulf, living in and traveling to more than 20 countries. He retired in 1983 and then he and Florence built their dream home on 200 acres along Cove Creek just south of Prairie Grove, Arkansas. There he designed and constructed a 7-hole golf course, built beautiful things in his woodworking shop, did repairs and restoration work on his antique clocks, and took trips on old steam trains whenever he could. Florence died in 2002, but Maurice remained at their home "on the farm" until just 2 1/2 months ago.

He is survived by his 4 daughters: Ann Wilcox of Dallas, Texas, Nancy Warmack of Lincoln, Arkansas, Pat Potter of Conroe, Texas, and Rosalie Pipkin of Owasso, Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren: Michael McCormick, Elissa Warmack, Marci O'Connor, Heather Wilcox, Loreli Warmack, Mark Potter, Tina Roberts, Kelly Potter, Karen Potter, Carl Pipkin, Amy Pipkin, Jason Pipkin, and Colby Pipkin, as well as 19 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Willard Walker Hospice Home, 325 E. Longview St. Fayetteville, AR, 72703.

Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to funeral service.

Funeral service will be held Saturday June 4, 2016 2:00 p.m. at Luginbuel Chapel in Prairie Grove. Burial will be at Garrett Creek Cemetery near Prairie Grove.
