Roger Morrow Pitts
77 a resident of Lincoln, passed away March 15, 2016 at his home. He was born May 26, 1938 in Fayetteville, the son of Sterling and Mansie Elizabeth Morrow Pitts.
Roger married Mary Alice Mileur in 1958, He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1961 with a general agriculture degree and certificate of teaching. They moved to Hot Springs where he taught Vocational agriculture at Lakeside High School for one year. They moved to Hope where he was then hired as the Farm Bureau Agency Manager in Hempstead County.
Roger and Mary Alice returned to the family farm in 1964 where they spent the next 52 years farming. They celebrated Washington County Farm Family of the Year in 1989 and were honored with the Arkansas Department of Agriculture Century Farm award in 2014.
Roger was a loving, humble and kind, yet competitive man. He was a member of the state runner-up Lincoln basketball team in 1956, named to the Arkansas State Little All-American football team and played one year of football at Arkansas Tech University. He spent his adult life as an avid Arkansas Razorback and Lincoln Wolves Fan. He loved traveling to surrounding cities and states to watch his children and grandchildren compete in athletics and participate in their many activities. Roger enjoyed hunting with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Russell Sterling Pitts.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years Mary Alice Pitts; two daughters Sarah Simmons and husband Terry of Prairie Grove and Alicia Ezell and husband Tracy of Bryant; one daughter-in-law Guatha Pitts of Lincoln; nine grandchildren Seth Sterling Pitts, Connor Thomas Pitts, Alec Morrow Pitts, Dustin Riley Simmons, Dalton Ryder Simmons, Trevor Keith Ezell, Tanner Cole Ezell, Kimberly Simmons Brown and Shane Ryan Simmons; three great grandchildren Braxton Gunter Brown, Braylon Allen Brown and Lennon Adeline Pitts.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m at Luginbuel Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held Friday March 18, 2016 - 10:00 A.M. at Central United Methodist Church in Lincoln. Burial will be in Sugar Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Seth Pitts, Connor Pitts, Dustin Simmons, Dalton Simmons, Trevor Ezell, Alec Pitts and Tanner Ezell.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Terry Simmons, Tracy Ezell, Curtis Griscom, Darren Wilhite, Jay Pitts, Ronnie Mileur and Shannon Burks
Memorials may be made to the Lincoln Public Schools for Scholarships and Foundation, 1392 E Pridemore Dr., Lincoln, Arkansas 72744.

I did not know Roger well but I knew OF him my whole life. What stands out in my mind of him is the night he came to my Uncle Otis' s (and his lifelong best friend) bed side as he was passing. I was on the other side of the bed, holding Otis' s other hand when I looked over at Roger and saw big tears coming down his face. His devotion to his lifelong friends and family was admirable. I hope they are in heaven with Russell tonight, laughing about days gone by. - My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

God called another great Angel home today & he will be truely missed here on earth.....Roger Pitts. Roger & Mary Alice have been long time friends to my daddy (Bob Sparks) & mother (Pat Sparks). Roger was one of my daddy's best friends all through school & into their adult lives. Love hearing my dad & Roger tell some stories on each other! When my dad's health started failing....Roger was there for my dad .....calling him at home or in the hospital almost every day to check on him. He spoke at Daddy's funeral there in Dutch Mills, Ark. before they laid him to rest.....and for that I am very thankful! I know Daddy was there waiting at those Pearly Gates for you Roger & both of you were giving each other a big huge bear hug!! The world is not going to be the same without you in it! We enjoyed all the Pitts' reunions that he and you hosted throughout the years, letting the kids "play" on your farm and tour the chicken houses! Dan and I still remember the first reunion when we brought Kevin, in July 1994. Kevin was ~ 6 weeks old and it was 105F+ outside!
