Notes

Aunt Ada Foreman Passed Away Monday

“Aunt” Ada Foreman, pioneer resident of this vicinity, passed away Monday morning at 10:30 o’clock at the home of her nephew, Harry McClellan, in Cane Hill, Arkansas. The home occupied by her nephew is the old McClellan homestead.

The deceased was a lifelong friend of the late Will Rogers and holds the distinction of being the first white woman to see Will Rogers after his birth. “Aunt” Ada gained a reputation with Will for her ability to bake cornbread the way he enjoyed.

The Foremans, along with a number of other prominent families of Claremore, came to Indian Territory and settled in the vicinity north of the present-day Claremore many years before statehood.

She is survived by three daughters:

Mrs. Lula Lipe, of Nowata

Mrs. James Kennedy, of Beaumont, Texas

Mrs. D. J. Faulkner, of Claremore

And one son:

Major T. W. Foreman, of Quincy, Illinois …as well as a host of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at Cane Hill, Arkansas. Interment will be made in the McClellan Cemetery at Cane Hill.
