Samuel Purviance Woods

In the obituary of 1882 the following: Mr. Samuel Woods, a prominent and highly esteemed citizen of our county, died at Bentonville on Thursday night of cholera morbus. He was attending court as a juryman. (Fayetteville Democrate 10/19/82);

Samuel was born on Dec 26, 1809 in Ohio, the son of Samuel "East" Woods and Anna Purviance.

He died on Oct 13, 1882 in Benton County, Arkansas .

His wife was Elizabeth Greaves Dickson, who he married in 1831 in Tennessee. Their eight known children were Margaret Ann (1832-1882), Mary Emma (1834-1863), William Harvey (1836-1860), Elizabeth G. (1839-1843), Robert David (1843-1902), Eliza Jane (1846-1925), John Samuel Eleazer (1848-1912) and Joseph Newton (1852-1920).
