**Wallace Phillips**
William Wallace Phillips, 50, of Fayetteville died Dec. 31, 1987, as the result of an accident in the Wedington community. He was born Feb. 28, 1937, in Vandervoort, Ark., the son of Oscar and Bert Hammond Phillips. He was a retired civil service employee with the Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service. He was also a self‑employed professional soil classifier. He was a graduate of Arkansas Tech at Russellville and received his master’s degree from the University of Arkansas. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Fayetteville where he had served as a deacon for 25 years. He was a member of the Gideons International and had been a resident of the area for 25 years.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lynn Phillips of the home; five sons, Bill, John and Steve Phillips, all of Fayetteville, Clint Smith and Landon Smith, both of the home; his mother, Mrs. Bert Phillips of Vandervoort; one brother, George Phillips of Vandervoort; one sister, Mrs. Mary Bisbee of McColl, S.C.; and five grandchildren.
Services were Monday, Jan. 4, at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Fayetteville with the Rev. Dan Caldwell officiating. Burial was in Mount Comfort Cemetery under the direction of Moore’s Chapel.
Pallbearers were Jake Phillips, Cleo Morris, Chester South, Larry Shackelford, Scott Culver, Jerry Hoskins, Carl Stephens and Garth Rotramel.
