J. C. Carmack Dead

(Reported for the Herald)

John Crozier Carmack

J. Carmack was born in January, 1850: died Thanksgiving day November 29. 1917 at his home at Morrow, Ark He was a sip sap of Rev. Sam Cox.

He had only one brother, Will Carmack, who moved to California a number of years no, and died later. He also had one half-brother. Rev. Sammie Cox of Crawford county, who was present at his funeral and burial Mrs. Hassie Hardy of Evansville, is a half-sister but was not able to be present at the funeral.

He married Miss Amanda Reed, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnson Reed. To this union were born six children, all of whom are living but one.

The living children are, Will of Cove creek, Jap. Emmet, Lowry and Vernon of Morrow, Emmet and Vernon living at home with their parents.

Mr. Carmack spent the greater part of his life near where he died. He was a good father, a kind neighbor and a devoted Christian gentleman. He first united with the Protestant Methodist church but later joined the Presbyterian church, to which church he remained a loyal member until called home.

He was one of the most lovable fathers that I ever knew. One of his sons said after he passed away. that he had never given his father an unkind word, which shows to a great measure the kind of a man he was.

The funeral services were conducted at the Fly Creek church by the Rev. Knox, who was assisted by Rev. Johnston, both of this place. The popularity of the deceased was demonstrated by the large number who attended his funeral and burial...
