Lineage 1

Lineage 1 ("Ll") has two sub-lineages: LlA, Robert and Rebecca Rankin of Guilford

County, North Carolina, and LlB, Joseph and Rebecca Rankin of New Castle County,

Delaware. Robert was definitely the original Rankin immigrant in his line. Joseph was probably

the original immigrant in his. The common Rankin ancestor for Robert and Joseph is unknown.

Both Y-DNA results and traditional paper research indicate virtually no chance of a common

ancestor in the colonies. He probably exists around 1400, plus or minus a century, almost

certainly in Scotland.
