Walter L. Penney Funeral Today
Funeral services were held this afternoon at three o'clock at Westminster Presbyterian Church for Walter Lamar Penney, 73, who died Monday afternoon at 3:25 o'clock at Baugh-Wiley-Smith Hospital where he had been a patient for the past three weeks. The service was conducted by Rev. John Troxler in the absence of Rev. George Hubbard, with interment following in City Cemetery, Brown directing. Pallbearers were: Richard Watkins, Douglas Rogers, Erskine Pickens, Henry Richter, John Hambrick and Thomas Harvey.
Mr. Penney is survived by his wife and two sons, Lamar Rankin Penney and Walter M. Penney, of Decatur. Three brothers and two sisters and other relatives also survive.
Mr. Penney was born August 19, 1884 at Huntsville and came to New Decatur in 1904 and worked for his uncle, James E. Penney. In 1907 he bought the business of Henry B. Scott, who operated a general insurance, real estate and rental business. He was in the insurance, real estate and loan business throughout his adult life. For the past year he has been associated in business with his son, Walter M. Penney, in Penney Realty Co.
In June 1907 he and Miss Lytle Rankin were married and they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at their home, 506 8 th Avenue SE, when numbers of old and young friends came to see them.
