Elizabeth Meeker Ward's obituary from January 19, 1870, in The Daily Kansas Tribune states:

At her residence, near Black Jack, Douglas county, Kansas, on the 25th of December, 1869, Mrs Elizabeth Ward, in the 61st year of her age.

Phoebe D. Ward was married in Columbus, Ohio, February 23, 1852, to William Alexander Rankin. They had seven children; five lived.

After William died in Albuquerque, NM, where they had been living, Phoebe returned to Lawrence, KS to be near her family.
