James Morrison Carlton went to Texas with his brother George Washington Carlton around 1858. James served in Co C 2nd Reg Kansas Cavalry/Union. Enlisted Sept. 1863 and furnished his own horse. He was captured by Confederates in September 1864, made his escape, and served until April 1865. His name is mentioned in the "War of the Rebellion," Vol. 41 Series 1, page 776.
