Dr. David W. Rankin (502) b. April 12, 1834; d. Jan. 30, 1902; m. Margaret E. Wilson (5,0) b. Sept. 29, 1840.

Dr. Rankin was born in Greene county, Tennessee in the house that stands in a five acre lot adjoining his grandfather Rankin's old homestead two miles east of the town of Greeneville.

When a young man he attended Tusculum College near Greeneville for four years and a half. completing his studies at that institution in the spring of 1855. He then read medieine under Dr. F. A. McCorkle, at Greeneville and in the fall of 1857 went to Nashville to attend the medical school of the University of Tennessee. He completed his studies in February 1858, began the practice of medicine in March, and was married December 1 of that same year at Morristown, Tennessee.

In the spring of 1859 he settled at Blue Spring in Greene county, Tennessee, where he practiced medicine until the close of the civil war. He then went to Dandridge and opened a drug store and continued the practice of medicine.

On April 12, 1881, he left Dandridge and moved with his family to Viney Grove, Washington county, Arkansas, where he continued the practice of medicine. Shortly afterward he went to Bloomfield, Arkansas and a little later to Gentry in Benton county where he spent the rest of his life as a successful physician.

He died at Gentry, Arkansas, and is buried at Bloomfield, Arkansas. His wife survives him and lives at Gentry, Arkansas with their daughter Mrs. Catherine Tallman.
