Notes

Mrs. Lafayette Lee Johnson

A gloom was again cast over our town by the death of Mrs. Madge Pyeatt Johnson at the Fayetteville hospital Tuesday morning. Mrs. Johnson became ill at her home at Cincinnati, this county, ten days before her death and was taken to the hospital Friday where everything possible was done but to no avail. Her body was brought here Tuesday evening to the home of her sister, Mrs. Jack Wilson, and Mr. Wilson.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Chas. Sherman, a former pastor, now of Mansfield, assisted by Rev. Edward Forrest, and burial was made in the Prairie Grove cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Ewing and Jasper Pyeatt, Dan Pyeatt, Hayden McCormick, Wallace and Wayne Stone-all cousins of Mrs. Johnson. The flower bearers were special girl friends. The members of Prairie Grove chapter, U.D.C., of which she was a member, occupied reserved seats. The floral tributes were very beautiful.

Madge Lee Pyeatt was born at Floyd, Okla., Feb. 26, 1902, came with her parents to Arkansas in childhood, where her great-grandparents had been among the first settlers of Cane Hill. She attended school in Prairie Grove, also in Texas, and at the State Teachers College in Tahlequah, Okla., and taught school for several years.

She married Lafayette Lee Johnson at Webber Falls, Okla., in March 1928, and had lived with her parents at Cincinnati for several months.

She is survived by her husband and infant son, Billie Gene; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Pyeatt; two sisters, Mrs. Jack Wilson and Miss Elizabeth Pyeatt; her grandfather, Mr. Fisher; and a large number of relatives.
