Patsy graduated from Westville High School in 1977. Education was a priority for her, so she obtained an AAS in Interior Design from the University of Chicago, a BS in Education in Vocational Home Economics and MS in College Teaching from Northeastern State University. Patsy started teaching in1996. While teaching at Westville High School she continued to take college courses to expand her knowledge base. Patsy was District Teacher of the Year and went on to be one of the top 5 finalists for State Teacher of the Year.
A mentor and role model, her love of children and the Westville community have been her driving forces in making a difference. Patsy did much more than present information to students, she guided them to learn for today, look to the future and believe in themselves. Her passion was being the Future Homemakers Association (FHA) and Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Advisor, encouraging students of all backgrounds to be involved in the community.
Giving back was first nature to Patsy and she passed that love of community to her students. They volunteered at the Senior Nutrition Center, nursing home and community events. Her students were elected to district, state and national offices with some earning national recognition in competition. While teaching at the high school, Patsy also taught Family and Consumer Science at Northeastern State University.
Patsy showed support of her beloved Westville in many ways. She kept the Westville Public Pool open for more than 20 years. She owned multiple businesses throughout her life including a restaurant, flower shop and daycare center. When she wasn't teaching children, she was creating beautiful flower arrangements for special occasions or looking forward to her next opportunity to spend time with her grandson Ryder, the light of her life. Giving back, she also served on many boards over the years, including as director.
Patsy loved Westville. As a volunteer with the Westville Chamber of Commerce, Town of Westville and Adair County United Way, she was dedicated to creating and hosting community events for families to enjoy and to keep the community thriving. She started the Miss Loyalty Scholarship Pageant. Her generosity knew no limits, whether it was cooking the Thanksgiving Community Dinner, taking her day care staff on a trip to the beach or taking volunteers out to dinner to thank them after helping with an event. Her can-do attitude and energy were inspiration to many others, who also learned the value of volunteering from Patsy. In 2022, Patsy was surprised and thrilled to be inducted into the Westville High School Alumni Hall of Fame.
