Lucille McWhorter Harvey was born Jan. 4, 1930, on a farm near Berwick, Kan., to Reverend Lloyd Lee and Viola (Hollabaugh) McWhorter. She left Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007, due to bone cancer, to meet her beloved Lord.
She was the first baby born in Nemaha, Kan., in 1930. She was a member of the Sycamore Hills Baptist Church and a member of the senior God's Go Getters (3Gs) Choir. She enjoyed singing for her Lord and had done so most of her life. She also was a member of the Senior Citizen Choir at Vesper Hall, Blue Springs, MO. She graduated from Morrill Rural High School in 1948 as Salutatorian of her class. She was a volunteer at the Independence Salvation Army from 1978 until her death. She was president for 12 years of her neighborhood Know Your Neighbor (KYN) club. She was a lifetime member of the Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas Organization.
She had been married to Ivan Wallen (1949-1956) to whom were born three sons, which she called 3 Js, Jimmie Lee, Jerry Lynn and Johnnie William Wallen (who was killed in 1980, in Dallas, Texas by a piece of bridge steel he was welding). She was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, her parents, her brother, her youngest son, two grandbabies and her husband Bill. She was married to William R. Harvey for 47 years.
She leaves her other sons, Jimmie Lee (Two Crows) Wallen, his wife Deborah of Independence, Mo., Jerry Lynn Wallen; his wife, Sharon of Garden City; daughter-in-law, Susan Wallen Hecox; two stepchildren, Louise Harvey Helmig, her husband, Jerry of Cross Timbers, Mo., Larry Harvey, his wife, Lucy of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; four grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; plus a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. with visitation at 10 a.m. Saturday at Shields Colonial Chapel. 45th and Blue Ridge, Kansas City, Mo. Burial will be in Morrill City Cemetery, Morrill, Kan. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Sycamore Hills Baptist Church Building Fund, 15200 East 39th St., Independence, or to St. Luke's Hospice, 3100 Boradway, Suite 1000, Kansas City, Mo. 64111.
