Tributes

David trained so many of us to rescue others, his legacy will continue to save lives long after we're all gone - the seed has grown and blossomed. It was an honor and a privilege to have known him.
Kathy Nunez - SAR Responder
David, you were my hero. I trusted my life in your hands many times. Because of your teachings I am more confident in my abilities as a SAR member and am now going to strive to be more active and learn all I can. We will miss you greatly David.
Becky Patlan-Garcia - SAR member
David was one of the most selfless and giving people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. He gave of himself everywhere he went and he will be dearly missed. He leaves an impressive legacy of SAR responders, scouts, leaders, and friends. We are all better people for having known him.
Katie Rogers - SAR Responder
Our family will be forever grateful to David for the invaluable role he played in bringing our daughter, Haley, home in May 2001. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family. Once in a while, there is an unselfish, determined and kind-hearted person in this life. David was such a person.

Norhing I could say here could express the amount of respect I have for David. We met as a part of SAR, but I truely got to know him while working with him on the Lewis & Clark Adventure race. We couldn't have pulled that race off without his technical support. I also had the pleasure of attending weekend on rope as his medical support. I was in awe of his knowledge of ropes and safety. I will miss you David. I'm grateful for your friendship. RIP, my friend.

David was such a force within Weekend on Rope. It was a joy to work with him! I climbed and/or rappelled with him many times and learned something new every time. His influence changed my life. He will be so missed!
Kate Coleman - Scouting friend
Dave was an asset to law enforcement and SAR. We had many fine adventures together. I counted Dave as a friend. God bless the family.

David was president of Search and Rescue when I joined in 2009; he was a great teacher and a great leader; one who lead by example. He also took the time to share in the accomplishments of the team members by making a point to congratulate and commend us- whether it be for a successful training session or for achieving a Search and Rescue certification. David set the tone for the team- as a member I felt valued and encouraged to learn from him and the other members, and also to help teach new members and share my own thoughts and experiences. David you will be truly missed but your legacy will live on forever.
Meghan Gallo - SAR Member

So sad to hear this. I met David through his Venture Weekend on Ropes program where I trained to be a climbing instructor. I will always be impressed with his knowledge and ability to share it with others. My prayers for him and his family.

Dave will be remembered as a man intent on making a difference in the lives of those around him. I had Dave as a student and even as he neared retirement, his zeal for learning was always apparent. I have no doubt he will be missed by family and friends. Dave, RIP until we meet on the trail again.
Steve Graves - Former Co-Worker
Every time we rig up, I can still hear David's booming voice in the first class I took from him, "And when you kill little Johnny, we will testify that we didn't instruct you in that manner!" He commanded everyones attention and was a giant among men. He signed off on my last re-certification and I've always felt it was a privilege to know him. May you take comfort in knowing that he is in peace and his life lives on thru the many people that he touched and trained.
Barry Bray - Climbing Instructor
Hard to imagine that Dave will not be with us on our next major SAR mission, but no doubt his spirit will be present. In addition to is excellent law enforcement career, he began his passion for SAR in 1992 with the Benton County Unit and eventually dedicating 20 years of volunteer service to the growing SAR community in Arkansas and elsewhere. You get one shot at this life and only a few folks really find a meaningful purpose - Dave did just that! Christy and Family.....as you can see your Husband, your Dad, your Grandpa, your Brother and your Son "made a difference" not only with many of us, but also the lost subjects and others in peril he assisted. Obviously he must of had a much more personal and inspirational purpose in your lives. We pray that you are receiving support within your family and friends, and hopefully finding words of comfort from our Lord and Savior.
Mark Clippinger - SAR Friend and Colleague...
Christy and family. Dave's loss has had an impact on us all. I am unable to attend the service because I will be out of state. I have fond memories of one day Dave and I were out searching for a fugitive and he drove off the road. I chastised him in loud, profane language. We both were unhurt and laughed. Years later, on the firearms range Dave, the rangemaster, came to me and chastised me for a stance he had not seen in twenty years. He demonstrated the proper stance and we laughed. He made me a better shooter, better person. He made all of us better, more caring people whether it was law enforcement or search and rescue. We will all miss him, and it was my privilege to have been associated with him. God bless.
Richard O'Connell - Friend and co-worker
