Obituary

Edward Roscoe "Eddie" Mcclelland

Age 77, a lifetime resident of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 18, 2024 while at home with his sweetheart of 59 years, Dianne McClelland. He was born August 14, 1946 in Prairie Grove, Arkansas, the son of Jack R. and Vera Juanita (Wray) McClelland.

Eddie was born and raised in Prairie Grove, Arkansas. He met his wife in the 1st grade and together and in love, they graduated from Prairie Grove High School in 1964. He is remembered in the Prairie Grove Hall of Pride as valedictorian of his class and for recognition of his athletic talent. Eddie was scouted by Freddy Hawn in ‘64 to play for the St. Louis Cardinals where he played for 2 seasons before coming home to his wife and starting their family in 1965. He worked for Standard Register while volunteering for the Prairie Grove Fire Department until becoming the town barber at Jack’s Barber Shop in 1967, where he cut hair and built timeless relationships for 48 years. In that time, Eddie and Dianne had 3 children: Shawn, Benton, and Shannon. Then in 2014, Eddie retired and spent as many days as he could doing what he loved most - hunting, fishing, gardening and eating Dianne’s incredible home cooked meals.

I’m very sorry for any pain that the family experiencing during this time of grief! Eddie was a fine man and a Christian . I told my Dad he knew the Bible and could discuss Bible topic's intelligently. I know his last years were difficult on all of you and I wish this disease would not exist ! Mom suffered too and at her funeral I said we’d shed no tears for her because she is whole now and with Christ . I would wish for you the same tears of grief for your loss but no tears for Eddie for he too is whole now and with Christ! I pray for your comfort and His comforting hand on all of you his family!

Dianne, I’m so very sorry for your loss. I’ve been praying for you and your family. I knew Eddie when he was younger, Pat and I were, and still are, such good friends. I loved their family. I used to ride to church with them on many Sundays. I know he will be greatly missed, but is in a much better place, knowing first hand how wonderful heaven is. I pray for peace and comfort for you and family that only God can give. With Love Carlene Osburn Morris
