Obituary
John Mahlon Harvey, 82, a resident of Lincoln, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2017 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was born June 19, 1934 in Neuilly-Sur-Seine, France, the son of Jesse Mahlon and Vivian A. (Heuss) Harvey.
He moved from France to California at the age of four. He served in the US Air Force for 4 ½ years. He attended college at Whittier College, and later took classes at UC Irvine and UC Riverside. Although he never formally completed a degree, he continued to self educate himself on a wide variety of topics throughout his life. He married Eulimma L. Miller on July 3, 1960. In addition to his career as a systems analyst/computer programmer, he taught computer language classes at a community college.
In retirement, he and his wife moved to Lincoln, Arkansas in 2003 where he soon became actively involved in the community. He served on the board of the Arkansas Country Doctors Museum, was a member of Friends of the Library and the Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce. He was the recipient of the 15th Annual Bud Cox Award from the Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce, and a Citation from the Arkansas House of Representatives for his many years of service, and the countless lives he touched.
His passion was to help children. He served as a 4-H leader in electrical and computer projects. He helped the schools in Hemet, CA to start their computer programs when they first began using computers in the classroom. He participated in the Lincoln Schools Community Alliance and was extremely active in the Lincoln Kiwanis Club, where he served multiple terms as president, and was involved in numerous projects including the Terrific Kids Program, the Builders Club at the middle school, the Key Club at the high school, and the Lincoln Youth Adventure Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Rosemary Harvey.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Eulimma Harvey; two daughters, Karen Ditton and husband David of Rolla, Missouri and Kristin Bernold and husband Matthew of Woodbridge, Virginia; five grandchildren, Katherine "Katie" Collins, Jessica "Jessie" Ditton, Laurelle "Laurie" Ditton, Krysta Bernold, and David "Deuce" Ditton.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to John M Harvey Memorial Fund benefit the Lincoln Schools Reading Programs. Memorials may be made at any Arvest Bank, or sent to John M Harvey Memorial Fund, Arvest Bank, PO Box 8, Lincoln, AR 72744.
Funeral Service will be held Monday, January 16, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Central United Methodist Church of Lincoln. Burial will be in the National Cemetery in Fayetteville, on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.

I will always remember Carole and my trip to Arkansas and our day together plus several years ago our trip and stay over at your house with my college roommate, Julie, as we headed to Texas. You were definitely a wonderful host and showed us the sights of Lincoln and Fayetteville! The Lord bless you all!

I met John at work when I was a very young and brand new programmer, back in 1980. I couldn't program my way out of a paper bag, but John patiently worked with me to teach me how to code and how to analyze problems and construct solutions. He eventually promoted me to systems analyst where he continued to train and support me. He was infinitely patient, kind and generous. Without his mentoring, I never would have succeeded. And he did this for everyone he worked with. He was such a fount of knowledge and wisdom ! If one ever wondered about anything, John would always say, "I know of a book you should read" or words to that effect. He adored Eulimma and the girls and spoke about them all the time. My most sincere condolences to the Harvey family for the loss of this kind, generous and caring man.
