Tributes

My sweet Grandma passed away. She was a good Grandma to me. She was strong willed and had courage to go on. She was a Christian first. A good preachers wife whom I can remember sitting faithfully in the back pew of the little church in Garfield. I would come to church and sit by her and she would give me mints. She always had mints in her purse. She fried so many foods. She left toothpicks in the cakes but that is why we loved Grandma. She made Delana and I Demon Dolls. She made us handmade booties for Christmas. She loved to crochet and was very good at crafts and making things. Grandma always wore a dress, usually ones she made that were very floral and bright and I loved these dresses. They always looked very nice on her. She even liked working in the shed with the power tools. She was always busy working on something.....cooking, cleaning, caring for her dogs that she loved. I mean which of us does not remember Yawny with his often yellow fur before a bath. She cut the tails off her new poodle pups and left them on the back porch railing in the Garfield house. And all of us remember Mama Cat that helped populate the cat world in the Garfield area. She bought me a Lionel Richie tape with Grandpa for my 11th or 12th birthday when Anthony and I stayed with them for a few weeks. She was there for me in my teenage years when I went to her for advice. When I sent her cards I would always tell her how much I loved her and thanked her for raising my Dad as a Christian because in turn he raised me to be a Christian and enabling me to raise my children as Christians. I remember her kneeling every night with Grandpa to pray before bed in the living room. She was like me. Her hands and my hands look exactly the same. Even the way our little pinkies turned inward. Beautifully my daughter was passed this same trait from us..forever connecting her to her Grandma Oletta. I thank Grandma for allowing me to live in her home in Lincoln. I am so blessed to have been brought to this town. I understand now why she loved it. Grandma understood me. I think she knew it would be a good place for me. She told me she had a dream Jeremiah was in the back yard mowing and the kids were in the back yard too. It is amazing the little things we will pass on and remember. I am proud to call her my Grandma. I am glad she has went on to be with our FATHER! We will all see her soon. And everyone remember....Jesus loves us. You know she would want us all to remember her telling us that.

We loved Oletta and spent much time with her and my father Rev. Jack Austin. The last 16 years of his life was brighter due to her care and love. Dad always said they took care of each other. She has gone to her reward in Heaven.

Grandma Oletta will always hold a special place in my heart. My grandma Austin passed away when I was young and grandma Oletta was there for me through everything. I remember going over to stay with grandpa and grandma Oletta on Saturday nights and she would curl my hair. I also remember this one time I came over and I got sick and grandma Oletta slept with me and had her arm around me while I slept. I'm so glad I saved those dresses you made for me. I remember for Mother's Day you would always get me a little present for my dolls because I was there "mommy". :). You had a heart of gold. But now you are in Heaven and can be pain free. I am thankful you were there when I needed a grandma.
