Obituary
Clifford Lee Carte
Age 82, a lifelong resident of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 13, 2025, in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was born January 2, 1943, in Prairie Grove, the son of Lacy Gordon and Nola Madge (Hodges) Carte.
Clifford proudly served six years in the Army Reserve, where he trained and worked as a mechanic — a skill that became both his profession and passion throughout his life. Whether it was a tractor, truck, or neighbor’s pickup that needed fixing, Clifford was always the first to lend a hand, never turning away someone in need.
A true steward of the land, Clifford spent much of his life working his beloved farm. He cleared the timber himself, turning the woods into fertile pasture, sold the lumber, and raised cattle with quiet dedication. In later years, he found joy in running his bulldozer across the rolling hills of his property, shaping the land he loved so dearly.
In his younger days, Clifford was known for his love of horses — riding, training, and breaking them with skill and patience. He also kept a variety of animals on the farm to please his daughter, whom he adored. Clifford cherished the time he spent with his two grandsons, teaching them the value of hard work and the simple joys of farm life. Those lessons, and their many shared adventures, will live on in their memories forever.
He was a natural dancer, known for his smooth two-step and easy smile. Above all, Clifford will be remembered for his generous spirit — a man who would give his time, tools, or last drop of fuel to help a friend or stranger alike.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Glen Carte; one nephew, Brian Carte; and two nieces, Tammy Bristow-Carte and Barbara Christie.
Survivors include his loving companion, Janelle Nunneley of Prairie Grove; his daughter, Ronni Wedge of Fayetteville; two grandsons, Collin Roberts of Rogers and Channing Roberts of Bentonville; one stepson, Robert Nunneley of Prairie Grove; three brothers, Billy Carte and wife Barbara, Gordon Carte and wife Gail, and Dennis Carte and wife Sharon, all of Prairie Grove; one sister, Wanda Rutherford and husband Don of Lincoln; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will deeply miss his kind heart and easy laugh.
