Obituary

Josephine "Jo" Powell passed away on May 3rd 2025 at the age of 94. She was the third child of James Carter and Ollie Bell Powell.

Jo was born and raised in the Walnut Grove area, where she became known for riding her horse everywhere and often giving rides to others. In her younger years she farmed alongside her daddy and she always looked back and longed for those days as she aged. She was always a farmer at heart.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ollie Powell, her sister Goldie Davidson and husband Luther her brother Pascal Powell and his wife Lorraine; her niece Ora Jo and her husband Eldon; her great niece Diana McLaughlin; and close friends Bessie Crabtree, Laura Sybrant and her husband Roy.

She is survived by her great niece Deniece Sanders and family of Porterville, California; her niece Gail Bentley and family of Gurley, Alabama and Tom Smith and family of Prairie Grove, Arkansas she will be remembered by her friends Freda, Dora, Joanne, Kitty and many many others. Jo had a lifelong love for animals and always referred to them as her "four-legged friends." So if you would like in place of flowers please consider making a small donation to your local animal shelter. Family and friends would like to thank Prairie Grove Health and Rehab for the kind care they gave Jo in her final years.

Funeral Service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 6th, 2025, at Luginbuel Chapel in Prairie Grove, The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will be in the Illinois Chapel Cemetery. No graveside services will be held at the cemetery.

Tributes

I remember Jo fondly from my childhood. She would often stop to visit, and sometimes she would take me riding up onto the mountain behind our house. I always looked forward to her visits. She was a wonderful person. She is gone, but my memories of her will live forever.
