Melvin Loyd Gage
83, a resident of Prairie Grove, Arkansas passed away January 7, 2007, at his home near Prairie Grove, Arkansas. He was born May 7, 1923 at Hindsville, Arkansas the son of George Melford and Lula E. Bolinger Gage.
Melvin was stationed on the U.S.S. Maryland at the time of the Bombing of Pearl Harbor. He was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. He worked 35 years with the Santa Fe Rail Road.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jossie Elizabeth Baxter Gage; and his second wife Wanda Nadine Jayne Gage; two brothers, Billy Paul Gage and Melford “Red” Gage; one sister, Lida Louse Allee; one step son Jackie Jayne; one great granddaughter, Crystal; one great-great granddaughter, Nicole.
Survivors include four daughters, Bettie Elizabeth Charlier and husband, Jim of Barstow, California, Mary Lou Wilkinson and husband, A.R. of Kidder, Missouri, Alice Jean Carroll and husband, Leslie of Mohave Valley, Arizona, and Barbara Lee Lockman and husband, David of Prairie Grove, Arkansas; one step son, Ricky Jayne of Arkansas; four brothers, Leon Gage, Robert Gage, Donald Gage and Bob Allee; six sisters, Frances Hilzendeger, Ida Taylor, Loretta Horn, Ivory Backus, Georgia Lee Rames and Lou Ann Zerzea; nineteen grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 12, 2006 - 12:00 P.M. at the National Cemetery Fayetteville, Arkansas, with Jack Thompson officiating. Burial will be in the National Cemetery Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Ross, John Gabbard, Nick Colbert, Ross Wilkinson, Shawn Lockman, and Charles Rader.
Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Erikson and Jack McLaughlin.
