William H. Griscom William H. Griscom was born in 1844. He left his home in New Jersey about 1865 and came to Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was a carpenter and an inventor. While in Fort Smith he met James Moore from Boonesboro, now Cane Hill. Mr. Moore hired him to help build a house near Boonesboro. There he met Nancy Moore, Mr. Moore's daughter. William H. Griscom and Nancy Ophelia Moore were married about 1870. They had two sons. Claude Donpedro Griscom, born 1872, and William Clark Griscom, born 1875. William H. Griscom died in 1875 a few months before his second son was born. He is buried in Moore Cemetery. Claude Griscom attended the Blackjack School near Starr Hill, which is now Lincoln. He was an apple grower and farmer. Claude was one of seven incorporators of the Ozarks Rural Electric Cooperative in 1938. Claude Griscom and Sarah Matilda May were married in 1899. They lived much of their lives on farms around Sugar Hill, near Lincoln. They had nine children. Claude Griscom died in 1956, and is buried in Cane Hill Cemetery. Claude and Sarah Griscom's children were: Ruth May Griscom was born at Lincoln, in 1900. Ruth married Frank Matthews in 1933. They had one daughter, Betty May Matthews Crumb. Betty May had three children: Joe Bill Crumb, Sheryl Ann Crumb, and Gary Mark Crumb. Betty May and Bill Crumb live in Rogers, Arkansas. Ruth Matthews died in 1970, and is buried in Stuckey Cemetery, near Johnson. Clark Harlan Griscom was born at Lincoln, in 1901. Clark married Margeret Pitts in 1929. Clark served as Postmaster in Lincoln. Clark and Margeret had two children: Shirley Griscom Reeves and William Clark (Bill) Griscom. Shirley has three daughters: Debra Lynn Reeves Kimes, Sarah Ruth Reeves and Suzanne Margeret Reeves. Shirley and Dale Reeves live in St. Louis, Missouri, where Shirley is a teacher. 1056 Families William Clark (Bill) Griscom is an apple grower and farmer. He Jives on a farm near Lincoln. Clark Harlan Griscom died in 1940 and is buried in the Sugar Hill Cemetery. Horace Oscar Griscom was born at Lincoln in 1903. Horace married Mildred Tabb in 1940. Horace is an apple grower and farmer. He and Mildred have one son, John Lee Griscom. John married Mary Black in 1972. John is a pipefitter. He and Mary live on a farm west of Lincoln. Horace and Mildred also live on a farm west of Lincoln. Floyd Raymond Griscom was born at Lincoln in 1906. He married Theo Campbell in 1934. Floyd was an apple grower and chicken farmer. He was well known as a fisherman. Floyd and Theo had one son Donald Max Griscom. Don married Barbara Mileur in 1964. They have two children; Cara Lynn Griscom and Curtis Allen Griscom. Don and Barbara live on a farm southwest of Lincoln on Sugar Hill Road. Don is an apple grower, farmer and runs a rural milk route. Floyd Griscom died in 1977 and is buried in the Cane Hill Cemetery. Cleopatra Bell (Cleo) Griscom was born at Lincoln in 1909. Cleo married Edward Metz III in 1930. They had two sons. Edward (Eddie) Metz IV. Eddie has two children: Lela Karen Metz and Edward Metz V. Eddie and Jyene live in El Reno, Oklahoma. Cleo and Edward's second son, Jerry Claude, died at two years. Cleo is now married to Charles Dixon, and lives in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Esther Matilda Griscom was born at Lincoln in 1911. She married Raymond Uhl in 1938. They have one daughter, Sandy Uhl Drake. Sandy has two sons: Dean Drake and Scott Drake. David and Sandy Drake and Raymond and Ester Uhl live in St. Louis, Missouri. William Claude Griscom was born at Lincoln in 1914. He died in 1932 and is buried in Cane Hill Cemetery. Mildred Heloise Griscom was born at Lincoln in 1917. She married Harold Watts in 1938. They had three sons: William Gary Watts, Ronald Lee Watts and James Robert Watts. Mildred Watts now lives in Modesto, California. James Moore Griscom was born at Lincoln in 1920. He died in 1923 and is buried in Cane Hill Cemetery. This concludes the nine children of Claude and Sarah Griscom. William Clark Griscom (The second son of William H. and Nancy Griscom) married Addie Grimsley in 1900. He was a farmer and lived near Sugar Hill. He and Addie had two sons: Leonard Griscom born in 1902 and Cage Griscom born in 1904. William C. died in 1905 several months after the birth of his second son. He is buried in Bethesda Cemetery. Leonard Griscom married Berlene Dodson in 1925. They lived on a farm near Cincinnati. They had three sons: James Griscom, Jerry Griscom and Donald W. Griscom. James married Pat Eddy and lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Jerry married Irene Wilson. They have two children: Shirley Griscom Baker and Dale Griscom. Jerry and Irene Jive on a farm near Cincinnati, Arkansas. Donald W. married Suzanne Lee. They have two children: Phillip Griscom and Roberta Griscom. Don and Suzanne live in Little Rock, Arkansas. Leonard Griscom died in 1970 and is buried in Old Union Cemetery near Cincinnati. Cage Griscom married Henry Gibson in 1928. They had three children: Billy Gene Gibson, Anna May Gibson and John David (J. D.) Gibson. Billy Gene married Pauline Deemartine. They have three children: Launa Gibson Anderson, Valarie Gibson, and John Gibson. Billy Gene and Pauline live in Georgia. Anna May married Clark Ray. They have one child, Gordon Ray. Clark and Anna May live in Claremore, Oklahoma. J. D. married Jolene Anderson. They have two children: Karen Gibson Pierson and Harold Gibson. J. D. and Jolene live in Lincoln, Arkansas. Cage Gibson died in 1981 and is buried in Ganderville Cemetery near Summers. The family of William H. Griscom has traced their heritage back to Betsy Griscom Ross, maker of the American Flag.
