DENTON, George O. – (from The Fayetteville Daily) George O. Denton died at his home at Evansville on Wednesday, May 4, of dropsy. He was about 75 years of age and his life had been spent in the community where he died. A quarter of a century ago he was a frequent visitor to Fayetteville and enjoyed a wide acquaintance and a large circle of friends. [The Springdale News 5/13/1910] Capt. Geo. Denton of Vineyard Township, brought to our office this week a sample of his crop of tobacco, which, we are confident, cannot be beaten in either Virginia or Kentucky. George only has one acre in tobacco, but it is safe to say that he will realize at least one hundred dollars from his crop. Did any farmer in the county beat that last year on one acre with any other crop? We guess not. He proposes to plant at least ten acres in tobacco this year, and in our opinion his head is about level. [Fayetteville Democrat 1/8/1876] Mrs. M.E. Denton, widow of George O. Denton, who died May 5, 1910, filed Widow Application #13521 with the Confederate Pension Board of Washington County for a Confederate widow pension and it was received as allowed August 14, 1911 at the State, citing her husband’s service in the 2ndArkansas Cavalry from 1861 thru 1865.
