Richard H. Bean, died at his residence in LaGrange, Texas on the 15th of May after a severe illness of two weeks, suffering much, but retaining all his faculties and being fully conscious of his approaching dissolution. Col. Bean was one of the Pioneers of Arkansas and continued to reside among us until the fall of 1857 when he emigrated to Texas and settled at La Grange. Thus has passed from among us one of the noblest works of the Divine Creator - an honest man, a true friend, a perfect gentleman, an affectionate companion, a kind parent and an exemplary Christian. May the afflicting Providence temper the grief of the disconsolate wife, bereaved children and sorrowing relatives and friends. C.
