James E. Howell
James E. Howell was born Mar. 1, 1848, died Feb. 8, 1928, aged 79 years, 9 months and 7 days. In August 1869 he was married to Margaret Morrow, who, along with six of the seven children born to them, preceded him to the better land. On Sept. 12, 1907, Mr. Howell was again married to Lou Morrison, who, with Jamie Howell of Colorado-his son and only living heir-survive him.
Mr. Howell was converted and joined the church early in life. He was an elder in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Moffit, and devoted his entire life to the cause of Christ in that locality. It is said by those who knew him that no man ever loved home better or ministered to the wants and needs of his loved ones with fonder affection. He was always ready to serve his community, church, and neighbors.
One of the largest crowds ever seen at a residence funeral came to pay their last respects to this great and good man of God, and to look for the last time upon the kind fatherly face that bore an expression of sweet and beautiful submission. He was laid to rest in the Howell Cemetery near his home, there to await the summons of Him who said, “I am the Resurrection.”
May the rich comfort of Him who bade His broken and weary children come to Him for rest be yours, dear bereaved ones, and enable you to say, like David of old: “We cannot call him back, but thank God, we can go to him.”
