I, along with my mother, Bessie Imogene Doss Shapland, would like to offer the family our sincerest condolences. We are traveling to Fayetteville from CA to attend the Sunset Cemetery Decoration Day on July 20 and were hoping to meet Richard.. his grandfather, Charles Gilliam, and mine, Miles Monroe, were brothers. We will keep you in our prayers. May God bless and comfort you all.

WOW....my PaPa was the BOMB....I ?'ed him sososososo much.....no 1 could ever ask 4 a better grandpa than him....He was a GREAT man....anybody you asked would say the same thing....Well...I ? him and always will....He left behind many good memories that the family will always remember and cherish.....I will miss him so much....He will be in my heart forever and always.....PAPA....I ? u and MISS U!!!!!?

There are many words that could describe my grandpa Doss but in my eyes there are so many that I don’t even know where to start everyone that met him or talked to him will always have that memory because he had a unique way of touching peoples hearts as he done to so many people I know all friends family and random people thought different about things after they talked to this wonderful person not only a great husband to my wonderful loving grandma but a wonderful father and the greatest grandpa that god could ever give us I know that I am very fond of him and his ways so I will try my very best to carry the ways that I learned from him and never break the tradition I admired this wonderful man and will never forget the memories and all the good times I had the privilege to share with him.

You will always be in my heart and memories

My papa was a great hard working man and left many memories for us to cherish. I know you are in a good place looking down on us all and saying "I'll be fine I'm in a better place don't shed any tears I'm walking with my lord." LOVE YOU PAPA!

Sue and family,Richard was the kindest, most thoughtful and giving man that I have ever had the pleasure to know. If you needed help, of any kind, he was there to offer a hand. He will be missed by all. You are are all in my thoughts and prayers. Oh the thrill to lie down to sleep one minute and the next minute to wake up in Heaven in the arms of our precious Jesus Christ.

Richard was a man with many roles, he was a husband, a father, a grandpa, a great grandpa, a friend, and was great at all of them! He always was positive and had something funny to say. He was one of the hardest working men we knew and was never afraid to try anything! We have shared many memories with him, Sue, his family, and those are memories that we cherish. Sue, just remember that God will not put any more on you then you can bare and that you will always have your family and friends to help you through this tough time. We love you very much and will always be here for you.

we are really sorry to hear about your loss and our thoughts are with you.

We are sorry for your loss. We really liked Richard. We always thought he was a real nice man. He always reminded us of Denver Pyle (Uncle Jessie) from the Dukes of Hazzard.

From Jazzy~ He was my papaw, with a funny laugh & beard and fun at deer camp. He was a good papaw to me and was funny to listen when meme and him bickered back n' forth over silly stuff all the time. He told lots of funny stories from the old days and I miss him. From Alesha~ He was a good father in law and always had hilarious stories to share with everyone with his leprachan laughter as they brought smiles to many. He was very loved and will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Richard was a kind and generous man. You could see the love he had for his family. His smile could warm you from head to toe and his jolly laugh always made me think of Santa Claus (the beard had a little to do with it).

Cherish the quality time he spent with you. Your precious memories and each other will help you to carry on. You will at times stop and think “I wish Dad were here”; he will be there with you because you now have another guardian angle to help look after you.

P.S. I can just hear Richard and my dad in heaven telling stories and making each other laugh.

We are so sorry for your loss. There aren't very many people who are caring enough to take responsiblity for those who can't. Richard did . His family was so important to him . He always took time to look and see what needed to be done, he made such a difference in the lives of the people who knew him. Our community was very lucky to have Richard Doss as an example. He was always an honorable and supportive family member. He is a man we won't forget. Our love and prayers are with you.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss and although many words can be said, Nothing can be said to ease the pain of losing a loved one.
