Mrs. Margaret Malinda Baker was born January 20, 1857, and passed into the spiritual world from her home south of Prairie Grove on Sunday night, February 14, 1926, at the age of sixty-nine years and twenty-five days.
She was born and spent her early life near Owensboro, Kentucky, coming to this country with her husband, W. G. Baker, more than half a century ago. They had twelve children, three of whom died in infancy. A grown daughter, Miss Stelia Christina Baker, died of the flu on October 24, 1918, while training as a nurse in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The eldest son, Alvin Orlando Baker, passed away on December 23, 1921.
Seven children survived her:
• Mrs. Ellen Beck of Indiaola, Oklahoma
• Ottillia Cleveland Baker of Galena, Kansas
• Mrs. Myrtle Hall of Lincoln
• Mrs. Minnie Van Camp of Hooker, Oklahoma
• Mr. James Charles Baker
• Mrs. Bertha May Serate
• Miss Fleeta Baker of Prairie Grove
Mrs. Baker was converted in her early teens and spent fifty-six years in His service. She was described as a patient sufferer, never complaining and seldom asking for anything. Though her ceaseless activities are now at rest, she remains irreplaceable in the hearts of her family and friends.
Funeral services were held at her home on Monday, February 15, conducted by Reverend John Parker, with interment in the Brewster Cemetery.
