Mary Elizabeth Hamilton
77, a resident of Altus, Arkansas, succumbed to cancer on April 21, 2011. A born-again Christian, she was born August 10, 1933 in Gleanor, Texas, the daughter of Marshall Alexander and Nannie Sue Riley Brown.
A beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she loved morning walks and had a passion for gardening, enjoying plants of all varieties. She shared “pattycake” and Dr. Seuss with all of her grandchildren. A kind and gentle soul, she encouraged others to find their happiness and to move beyond their differences.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Nannie Brown; three brothers Adrian, Marshall Jr. and Joseph Brown; four sisters, Juanita Brown, Virginia Reynolds, Rachel Magill and Betty Wright; and one grandson, Josiah Hackler.
Survivors include two sons, Timothy Hamilton of Framingham, Massachusetts, and Randy Hamilton of Westville, Oklahoma; five daughters, Sheila Dabbs of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Sandra Hancock of Lincoln, Arkansas, Brenda Hamilton of Boca Raton, Florida, Patty Hackler of Enola, Arkansas, and Kathy Mershon of Altus, Arkansas; two sisters, Odessa Shipes of Melissa, Texas, and Martha Insall of Abilene, Texas; twenty grandchildren; and nine great grand children.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Luginbuel Funeral Home at 115 N. Neal Street in Prairie Grove, Arkansas. Burial will be in the Rhea Church Cemetery in Rheas Mill, Arkansas. As she requested, there will be no graveside service.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday evening from 6:00-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Mary requested that donations be made to Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 West Sunset Avenue, Springdale, AR 72762.
