Julia Maxine Hite

94, a resident of Cove Creek Community near Prairie Grove, Arkansas, passed away October 27, 2008 in Springdale, Arkansas. She was born June 23, 1914 near Stillwater, Oklahoma, the daughter of George Granville and Bessie Florance Pennington Ripley.

Maxine held a PhD. and taught in many of the area schools. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Hite and four brohters, Lewis Ripley, Isaac Ripley, George Ripley Jr. and Charles Herbert Ripley one sister, Bessie Florence Ripley.

Survivors include one sister Ruth Johnson of Idaho. Numerous Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 1, 2008 - 10:00 A.M. at the Cove Creek Holliness Church near Prairie Grove, Arkansas, with Bobby Dobbs officiating. Interment will be in the Garrett Creek Cemetery near Prairie Grove, Arkansas.

Pallbearers will be Sarah Struble, Betty Weber, Otis Hite, Mike Dobbs, Gary Newberry, Steve Crawford

Julia's work on the brown recluse spider is still the standard reference for all students of this important arachnid. Her scholarship endures. I only wish she would have received more credit for her efforts. Still...not a paper is written and published that her work is not cited as a cornerstone for all that follows.

I don't recall ever meeting Maxine but heard my parents Ray (Maxine's 2nd cousin) and Alma Hoaglan speak fondly of her. My thoughts and prayers are with Maxine's family.
