Obituary

John Frank "Johnny" Cheatham Jr.

Age 75, a resident of Lincoln, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at his home. He was born November 5, 1948 in Hereford, Texas, the son of John Frank "J.F." and Jewel Athalene (Clark) Cheatham.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Joy Athalene Batson.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years Anna Cheatham; one son Dean Neal Cheatham and wife Misty; one daughter Karen Lipford and husband Keith; six grandchildren Derek, Hudson, and Kate Cheatham, Garret Lipford and wife Brittany, Caleb and Allee Lipford; one great grandson John Payton Lipford, and one on the way; one brother Jody Clark Cheatham and his wife Darlene; two brothers-in-law Dale Batson and Edwin Roy and his wife Janet; six nieces and nephews Lisa Rawls and husband Caleb, Brad Cheatham and wife Jennifer, Tara Abshier and husband Patrick, Craig Roy and wife Sheryl, Brian Roy, Megan Luttrell and husband Chris, and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Johnny lived and worked in the Lincoln area his entire adult life; working for Summers Butane, The Washington County Road Department and The City of Lincoln.

He was a Texan! The Cheatham's moved from Texas, to J.F.'s hometown in Arkansas, when Johnny was in the 6th Grade. Maybe that explains his passion for horses.  He had Quarter Horses even in High School.  He enjoyed riding and teaching others to ride.  Johnny served his Country in the Air National Guard for 6 years following High School.

Eventually, his (and Anna’s) hard work and dedication allowed them to have a commercial egg and beef cattle farm.  He was a successful farmer and soon was able to expand his beef cattle operation.

Johnny loved The Lord and he faithfully used the musical talents The Lord blessed him with.  He willingly played music for special events throughout the area.  He sang and played in the Rexall Rangers for many years as well as playing for The Golden Harvest Quartet. However, one of his legacies will undoubtedly be the number of people he taught to play a musical instrument, including his children and all his Grandchildren.

Johnny always found joy in small things; like rescuing any stray dog, writing and singing a funny song, or telling stories and laughing with people.  His creativity knew no bounds and that always made work or all the other things he did with his family, including his siblings and his nieces and nephews a fun day.

The family will receive friends Sunday, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Luginbuel Funeral Home in Prairie Grove.

Funeral service will be held Monday, April 8, 2024 - 10:00 A.M. at Summers Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Beaty Cemetery in Lincoln, Arkansas.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Summers Baptist Church P.O. Box 27 Summers, Arkansas 72769 or Beaty Cemetery 10501 S Old Cincinnati Rd. Lincoln, Arkansas 72744.
