Alfred Sotorske

Age 90, a resident of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was born March 13, 1930 in Passaic, New Jersey, the son of Andrew and Mary (Machak) Sotorske.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Ann Hopkins and two brothers Andrew Sotorske and Albert Sotorske.

Survivors include his wife of 63 Joy Sotorske; one daughter Jan Slavens and her husband James; one son Brian Sotorske; one sister Marie Guenthart; five grandchildren Matt Doyle and his wife Arron, Jessica Wieties and her husband Dylan, Melissa Yowell and her husband Michael, Ashley Preston and her husband Elijah, and Sarah Sotorske; nine great grandchildren Easton, Caden, Kylyn, Coleton, Brooklynn, Denver, Axel, Audrey, and Blakelyn.

Memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 6th, 2021, at Prairie Grove Cemetery Pavilion.

Missing you Al! But know God has a great man in heaven to look down and protect his loved ones.

Joy I want you to know me and my family think of you in this time. We know how hard it is to lose a loved one. But keep talking about all the great time you’ve had together with your friends and children and others. It helps to not feel so sad. I still miss my mom desperately and I wish the aches would go away. God helps me though.

I have you and your family in my prayers. Love you Joy

My Uncle Al was a kind and gentle person. I hadn't seen Uncle Al in many years, but growing up (in Covina, California) all I have is fond memories of him. He was a person that loved his family dearly. He was always laid back and seemed to just go with the flow. He never had a bad word to say about anyone, and never seemed to let anything ever get him down. I always admired that about Uncle Al.

As a kid, my mom, dad, my brother and I always spent Christmas Eve together with Uncle Al, Aunt Joy, and my cousins Jan and Brian. We had a lot of great times together. One memory that always sticks out in my head is all of us watching the movie "Paper Moon" in my mom and dad's living room one night. As I remember, Uncle Al at the time worked for the Covina School District, and somehow managed to borrow the movie, along with an old movie projector. As a kid it was so exciting for us to sit in the dark, watching a major motion picture on a big screen right in our own living room, (of course while eating handfuls of popcorn).

Family meant a lot to Uncle Al. In 2002 when we suddenly lost my dad, my Uncle Al and Aunt Joy didn't hesitate to rush out to California to comfort my mom, my brother and me, all while at the same time they were grieving too. I am forever thankful to them for the compassion and thoughtfulness they gave us during our time of need.

Dear Uncle Al,

"I know you will be so missed by Jan and Brian, their families, and all of your wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren, and especially your beautiful loving wife of so many wonderful years, my Aunt Joy. They will always cherish the love you had for them, along with the many years of fond memories you leave behind. You were always a terrific uncle, and loving brother to my mom. May God bless you. Rest in peace Uncle Al."
